Organic farmer Craig Hickman won his bid to claim the seat of outgoing Republican Rep. Patrick Flood in House District 82.
Hickman, 44, defeated retired businessman Scott Davis, 60, of Winthrop, 2,915 to 2,557.
Davis, a Republican who serves on the board of directors of DFD Russell Medical Centers, campaigned on a promise to streamline government, reform education and prepare students for the job market. He is interested in seeking welfare reform as needed, and in exploring potential alternative energy sources in a balance of private investment and public subsidy.
Hickman, a Democrat and president of the Winthrop Rotary Club, promised to “work tirelessly” to eliminate “costly and burdensome regulations for small farms and businesses” and to work toward investment in sustainable energy initiatives.
Both men were Clean Election candidates.
