Mountain Valley 21, Lincoln 11

NEWCASTLE — Ayla Allen scored 11 goals to pace a Mountain Valley onslaught as the Falcons rolled to a 21-11 victory over Lincoln in their girls’ lacrosse season opener Thursday.

Thed Falcons fired 46 shots on goal against two Lincoln goalies, opening a 9-5 advantage at halftime. Tia White added four goals and an assist and Nicole Lavorgna added two goals. Also scoring for the Falcons were Chelsea Bordeau, Whitney Ruff, Jessica Theriault and Brittany Bedard. Katrina Bell led LIncoln with six goals and Mollu Stackhouse had the other five.

Holly Theriault made seven saves in net for Mountain Valley.

UMaine-Farmington, Lyndon State split

FARMINGTON — Brett Wallingford hit a two-run walkoff home run to give the University of Maine at Farmington a split, 0-2 and 6-5,  in doubleheader NAC baseball action Thursday afternoon.

With the Beavers (4-19) trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning of the nightcap, Josh Garneau doubled home Matt Levine with his third hit of the game to cut the deficit to 5-4. Matt Judkins followed by reaching on a fielder’s choice, and Wallingford delivered a blast to center field.

Zach Keene of Livermore provided two singles and an RBI for the Beavers. Ryan DiPompo of Jay notched the win in an inning of relief with two walks.

In the first game, Shane O’Donnell-Leach outdueled Farmington’s Bill Ridge for the 2-0 victory.
