High School Roundup: Saints stave off Greyhounds


AUBURN — Mary Caron lit the boards for 17 points Thursday as St. Dom’s hustled to a 51-35 MVC victory over Lisbon Thursday in a contest that was postponed by weather last Friday.

Allison Conley chipped in for the Saints (6-9) with 16 points.

The Greyhounds (6-9) were paced by Alexa Harmon with 11 points, while Denise Thomas and Jessica Campbell each chipped in with 10.

GPC 36, Hebron 20

HEBRON — After jumping out to a 10-point advantage in the first quarter, Greater Portland Christian used a 13-2 run in the third frame to pull out a 36-20 victory over Hebron Thursday.

Elaine Beech led Greater Portland with 16 points, while Suzanne Gonzalez chipped in with 11. Hebron was paced by Olivia Brown with seven points, while Atupele Machika tallied six.


Spruce Mountain 56, Winthrop 15

WINTHROP — Spruce Mountain jumped out to a 13-4 advantage in the first frame and scrambled away to record a 56-15 rout over Winthrop in a MVC girl’s basketball tilt.

Kathryn Ventrella led the powerhouse Phoenix (15-1) with 16 points, while Emily Keene chipped in with 10 and Ashley Dorey added seven.

The Ramblers (0-16) were paced by Jess Scott with seven points, while Shauna Carlson added six.

Boys basketball

Boothbay 74, Lisbon 37

BOOTHBAY — Anthony DiMauro ignited a 28-8 run in the opening frame as Boothbay raced away to post a 74-37 rout over Lisbon in MVC boy’s basketball action Thursday.

DiMauro scored 12 of his 17 total points in the first frame as the Seahawks (12-4) blew things open early. Ben Woodin, John Hepburn and Ben Dicksinson all chipped in with nine ponts for Boothbay in a balanced attack. The Greyhounds (1-16) were paced by Mason Smith with 15 points.

Telstar 48, Monmouth 31

BETHEL — Nick Mills sparked a 16-6 run in the third quarter that sent Telstar on to a 48-31 romp over Monmouth in more MVC boy’s action.

Mills scored six of his 12 total points in that key third frame, and also pulled down 11 rebounds. Dan Whitney led the Rebels (8-8) with 13 points, while Corey Howard also contributed with 12 points.

The Mustangs (2-14) were paced by Brandon Goff with 10 points, while Billy Cummings chipped in with six.

Dirigo 73, Mt. Abram 28

SALEM — Dirigo used a 15-6 first quarter and never looked back in a 73-28 win over Mt. Abram Thursday’s in MVC boys’ basketball.

The Cougars (16-0) had the lead up to 34-14 by halftime. Caleb Turner led Dirigo with 16 while T. J. Frost added 13. Cody St. Germain and Josh Turbide were also in double digits with 11 and 10, respectively.

Mt. Abram (2-14) got 10 from Tyler Hupper and eight from Ethan Boyd.
