High school roundup: St. Dom’s boys overpower Mt. Abram


SALEM — Midfielder Isaac Lapointe deflected a corner and hit the back post for the eventual game-winner as St. Dom’s notched a 2-0 victory over Mt. Abram in MVC boys’ soccer action Friday.

The Saints (5-2-2) placed the ball in the cage twice in the second half. Connor Samson redirected the ball past the goalie with 5:11 remaining in regulation to seal the win for St. Dom’s.

Goalie Tristen Dyer made nine saves for the Roadrunners (7-2), while goalie Ben Sawyer prevented four shots to earn the win in net for St. Dom’s.

Buckfield 5, Vinalhaven 1

BUCKFIELD — Jon Randolph recorded a hat trick Friday to propel Buckfield to a 5-1 victory over Vinalhaven in EWC boys’ soccer action.

Ethan Jackson and Brian Casey also tallied for the Bucks (8-2) to complete the scoring. Austin Christensen scored the lone goal for Vinalhaven (1-7) in a solid effort.

Calvin Downey made seven saves for Buckfield, while Isles Blackington turned aside 13 shots between the posts for Vinalhaven.

Field hockey

Oak Hill 0, Winthrop 0 (2OT)

WINTHROP — Corinna Coulton turned aside 28 shots Friday as Winthrop held Oak Hill to a 0-0 deadlock in a MVC field hockey tilt.

Meagan Chamberlain made four solid defensive saves for the Ramblers (5-3-3) to keep the Raiders (11-0-1) at bay.

Kayla Veilleux fired a penalty stroke for Oak Hill with two minutes left but failed to find the net. Abby Fuller made one save for Oak Hill, while Coulton really was the savior for Winthrop.

Hampden 8, Lewiston 0

HAMPDEN — Nicole Dunton recorded a hat trick Friday as Hampden overpowered Lewiston 8-0 in a KVAC field hockey matchup.

Kelly Martin and Danielle Sanders chipped in for the Broncos with two goals each, while Claire Scobie also tallied.

Ruby Ramsay needed only a single save to notch the shutout, while Kaylyn Labonte turned aside nine shots for the Blue Devils (1-9).

York 5, Poland 0

POLAND — Lily Posternak and Devon Datis each netted a pair of goals Friday as York rolled to a 5-0 victory over Poland in a WMC matchup.

Kayla Kelley also tallied for York (11-0) to complete the scoring.

Julia Carr turned aside 12 shots for York to notch the shutout, while veteran keeper Tia Lowndes made 11 saves for the Knights (7-4).

Kennebunk 5, Gray-NG 0

GRAY — Olivia Sandford bagged a hat trick Friday as Kennebunk sped away to a 5-0 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in more local field hockey action.

Brittany Greggare and Lindsay Gregoire also tallied for the Rams to complete the scoring.

Girls’ soccer

Mt. Ararat 7, Skowhegan 0

SKOWHEGAN — Torri Pelletier scored two goals and an assist as Mt. Ararat soared to a 7-0 victory over Skowhegan in girls’ soccer action Friday.

The Eagles (5-3-1) took a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Goalies Tara Bernard and Tadem Parker combined for 20 saves for the Indians (0-8), while goalie Lauren Williams stopped four to earn the win in net for Mt. Ararat.

Buckfield 4, Vinalhaven 0

BUCKFIELD — Junior forward Bri Damon netted all four goals to collect 20 on the season as Buckfield blanked Vinalhaven 4-0 in EWC girls’ soccer action Friday.

The Bucks (6-2-1) outshot the Vikings (4-4) by a margin of 24-7 in the contest.

Goalie Virginia Wadleigh made 16 saves for Vinalhaven, while goalies Olivia Dooley and Kersey Goyette combined for five saves in the winning effort for Buckfield.
