High School Roundup: Withee, Roadrunners outlast Mustangs


SALEM —   Amos Withee scored 18 of his game-high 30 points in the second half as Mt. Abram hung on to defeat Monmouth, 65-61, in MVC boys’ basketball action Thursday night.
Mt. Abram led, 13-3, after one period, and led by as much as 15 before Monmouth went on a 10-0 run early in the fourth quarter to get back in the game.  
But Withee drilled one of his five 3-pointers and hit some clutch free throws to halt the Mustangs’ momentum.
Ian James chipped in with 18 points for the Roadrunners (7-8). Marquis Houston led Monmouth (6-8) with 17 points while Brandon Goff added 11 points.
Lisbon 48, Telstar 30
BETHEL —   Lisbon dominated the second half to pull away from Telstar for a 48-30 win over Lisbon in MVC boys’ basketball action on Thursday night.
The Greyhounds scored 32 points in the second half, doubling their scoring output from the first half, to break open what was a three-point lead at intermission.
Tucker Brannon led the way with a game-high 15 points, while Kendall Roy added seven points for Lisbon (3-11).
Mike DelDuca led the Rebels (1-13) with seven points, while Cameron Pike added six points.
Buckfield 64,
Pine Tree 26
BUCKFIELD —  Tyler Goyette led a trio of players in double figures as Buckfield opverpowered Pine Tree Academy 64-26 in EWC boys’ basketball action Thursday.
Goyette finished with 19 points to lead the Bucks (6-7), while Mike Madore tallied 12 and Jared Eastman added 10.
Pine Tree (4-9) was paced by Zack Wilday with a solid 12-point effort.
Oxford Hills 66,
Cony 60
AUGUSTA —  Keny Lynch netted six of his 12 points in the fourth quarter to help Oxford Hills pull out a narrow 66-60 win over Cony in KVAC boys’ basketball action Thursday.
Luke Davidson led the Vikings (6-8) with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Jake Plummer chipped in with 11 points and five assists.  The Rams (4-10) were paced by Mitchell Bonnenfant with 12 points, while Kevin Kingsbury added 10.
Boys’ hockey
Gardiner 5, Leavitt 3
KENNEBUNK —  Hunter Belanger netted a pair of goals in the third period to lift Gardiner to a 5-3 win over Leavitt in KVAC boys’ hockey action Thursday.
Alex Nelson scored two goals for the Bulldogs, while Logan Peacock also tallied to complete the scoring.  The Hornets (3-6-1) received goals from Kyle Knight, Kevin Knight and Joey Baumann. Brad Moore made 17 saves for Gardiner, while Nick Allen turned aside 26 shots between the pipes for Leavitt.
