Hilton, Mustangs blank Bucs


MONMOUTH – The Mustangs found an opening in the sixth inning, scoring on an error and pushing another two insurance runs across, to send Monmouth to a 3-0 triumph over Georges Valley.

The Mustangs (9-1) got the leadoff hitter, Jen Lola, on base in the sixth inning of a scoreless game. Lola stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an infield error for the only run Monmouth would need.

Brittany Hilton struck out 12 and walked one to earn the win, while Vanessa Frisbie took the loss for the Buccaneers (6-4).

Fryeburg 1, Poland 0

FRYEBURG – Hannah Hill struck out 12 batters and walked two in a two-hit performance to stymie Poland 1-0.

Sophomore catcher Cerise Humphrey called a solid game behind the plate and scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on a double steal. Heather Tripp had a double for the Raiders (6-6).

The Knights (6-5) had runners in scoring position in the first, fourth, and fifth innings, but could not push across the tying run.

Buckfield 12, Averill 0

BUCKFIELD – Desiree Brackett fired a five-inning no-hitter and fanned 10 to lead Buckfield to a 12-0 victory over winless Averill.

Brackett helped out on offense with three hits, including a solo home run in the second for the Bucks (11-1). Shayna Shackford added a two-run homer in the fourth, while Lindsey Neal had two hits, including a triple.

Mt. Abram 11, Jay 0

SALEM – Emily Stinchfield had two of her three hits in the fifth inning as Mt. Abram scored six runs in the frame to blow open the game in an 11-0 victory over Jay.

Winning pitcher Loghan Walker allowed one hit and added a pair of hits and two RBIs on offense for the Roadrunners (8-3). Morgan Cummings had a pair of singles.

Kristen Adams had the lone hit for the Tigers (4-9). Felicia Floyd was tagged with the loss.

Liv. 15, Carrabec 0

NORTH ANSON – Whitney McDaniel tossed a five-hitter, striking out nine and walking a pair to help Livermore Falls in a 15-0 victory over Carrabec.

Marjorie DeBroski had three hits and scored three times, while Taryn Flagg, Chelsea Morris and Erica Gats all added three hits for the Andies (9-4), who have won six straight. Livermore’s Jenika Kelley had two hits and drove in four runs.

Becky Geil and Erika Taylor each had two hits for Carrabec (1-10).

Telstar 13, Mountain Valley 0

RUMFORD – Jessie Farrington pitched a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts to lead Telstar to a 13-0 victory over Mountain Valley.

Liz Rosenberg hit a double and a triple and drove in a run. Kayla Mills doubled twice and Megan Smith had two RBIs for the Rebels (9-0).

Oxford Hills 4, Morse 1

BATH – Jen Jurczak fanned 11 batters, yielding two hits, and Mindy Rugg had a two-run single in the first inning that gave Oxford Hills the winning margin in a 4-1 KVAC softball victory over Morse.

Rugg had two of the Vikings’ 10 hits. Jill Henrikson took the loss for the Shipbuilders.
