MEXICO — The Rumford and Mexico historical societies will host a joint potluck supper at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at the Calvin Lyons Room of the Mexico Town Hall. A program will follow at 6 p.m. for those unable to attend the meal.
The joint meeting will feature the ancestors of the Scotch and Irish immigrants who came to Rumford from Europe, often by way of Canada, to build the industries upon which Rumford has built its economy.
All guests are asked to bring a dish to share and if desired, the recipe from which the dish was created. Any specialty dishes of those with Scotch or Irish origin will be especially encouraged.
At the meeting, as in the past potluck suppers which featured the Lithuanians, the Italians and the French, the societies will have a table to display any artifacts from guests’ family history. Any items, such as photos, correspondence or clothing, will be carefully supervised by a member of the society.
