LOVELL — “Hobson’s Choice” will be playing at the Brick Church for the Performing Arts in Lovell on at 7:30 p.m., Thursday night, Aug. 20.
Tickets are $10 for adults at the door, and $5 for children 12 and under.
The musicians in Hobson’s Choice have known each other for years and have played together in various configurations, but only recently have they pooled their talents deliberately to form a band. Some listeners may have caught their sets at the open mic series at Bray’s Brew Pub in Naples. Merrill Rollins, keyboard player for the group, writes, “We really enjoy the spontaneity and unpredictability of that environment. It’s like picking up a piece of wood and starting to whittle with no particular object in mind. You never know how it’ll turn out, exactly!”
The evening will be devoted to jazz, blues, swing, country, rock ‘n’ roll and folk. The group will include Jerry Hobson (guitar and vocals), Merrill Rollins (keyboards and vocals), Krister Rollins (bass and vocals), and Brian Hodgman (stepping in for Bill Meade on drums). Joining them on sax and fiddle, adding a special flavor to the evening, will be their old friend John Donohoe, visiting from Nashville.
