Hockey: Gladiators win pair, tie another


The Maine Gladiators bantam travel hockey team compiled two wins, a loss and a tie in its past four games.

The locals broke out to a 2-0 lead against Casco Bay before fading to a 4-3 loss. Nate Granholm and Kyle Morin gave the Gladiators the early edge, with assists from Ryley Austin, Austin Roy and Matt Brooks. The lead held up until the third period when Casco Bay erupted for four unanswered goals. Griffin Wade scored late but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

In Biddeford, it was the host Breakers enjoying the quick 2-0 advantage before Roy cut the lead in half with Brooks and Morin assisting. Both teams notched a goal in the second period. Wade struch for the Gladiators with help from Kyle Ullrich. Morin notched the tying goal late in the third frame on a nice feed by Jozef Frechette to earn the 3-3 standoff.

Domination from start to finish highlighted a 6-1 road win over the New Hampshire Cyclones. Granholm led the attack with two goals and an assist. Morin had a goal and two assists. Roy, Frechette and Ullrich rounded out the scoring. ben Steele added a helper.

The winning ways continued with a 3-0 road shutout of Lakes Region of Laconia, N.H. Frechette scored a pair of goals with Ullrich tallying the other. Granholm delivered two assists with one helper by Wade.

Ridge Servidio and Kyle Welsh shared the duties in net over the four games ad continued their strong season-long play.
