The GOP tax bill could be called highway robbery. It takes money that could be used to fund badly needed repairs to America’s ailing infrastructure — roads, bridges, airports, rail lines and electrical grids — and gives it to big corporations and the wealthiest 1 percent of the population, plus adding $1.5 trillion to the deficit through 10 years.
The tax plan could also result in 13 million Americans losing access to health insurance.
Public polling has shown the tax cut is opposed by most Americans.
Here in Maine, a Republican governor and his allies in the state Legislature have failed to implement several referenda passed by the voters of Maine, including a 3-percent surcharge on high incomes and legalization of recreational marijuana.
Gov. Paul LePage now brazenly asserts that he will not implement the Medicaid expansion, passed overwhelmingly by the voters in November.
The GOP federal tax giveaway and repeated Republican actions to thwart the will of Maine voters are good reasons to vote straight Democratic in the 2018 midterm elections.
