LEWISTON – or Sam to his family and friends, passed away in Lewiston at age 69, on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 44 years, Joan; their children, Brian Houston and his wife Lia Angelini, Lynn Houston and her partner Andrew Merrill; two beautiful grandchildren, Breannah and Damian Merrill; his sisters, Beverly Poulin and husband Joseph, Roxane Elie and husband Mark, Brenda Gurschick and husband Norman, and Cindy Brown and husband Randy; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sam was born on July 4, 1949, in Lewiston, Maine to Homer W. Houston, Jr. and Marjorie Ireland Houston.  He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1967, was in the Army Reserves, and spent many years as a mechanic for Verizon, until his retirement in 1998.  At that time, he began working at United Ambulance in their wheelchair division always transporting clients with loving care and kindness.  He shared his enthusiasm for cars with many, attended car shows in Carlisle and Hershey with his wife, and loved spending time with his beloved son, daughter and grandchildren.

To all who knew him, he was a very hard-working man of great integrity and heart, always looking out first for his wife and children, and always a step ahead in his thinking and planning, for what was best for his family. Hey MacGyver, you will be greatly missed, forever.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at 10 a.m. in the Chapman Room at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 980 Turner St., Auburn, Maine.
