The Rumford Lodge of Elks 862 celebrated Flag Day on June 14 with a service in Veteran’s Park at the end of Congress Street. A light lunch was served in the lodge dining area after the service, prepared by Dick Welch and Albert Pomerleau. Participating in the service were Boy Scout Troop 580, the state hoop shoot winner and soccer shoot winners, Rumford and Mexico fire departments, Rumford Police Department and a representative from the American Legion. Speaker was state Sen. Bruce Bryant. Elks taking part were, from the left, Tim Chambers, Debi Briggs, Ann White, Bebe Belanger, Exalted Ruler Donald Hopkins, Jim White, Lewis Irish, Marie White, Robert Dube and Sandra Welch.
