PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Hundreds gathered to take a stand against sexual violence as part of Maine “Take Back the Night” rally.
The theme of this year’s march focused on the media, emphasizing that if it stopped portraying women in a negative way, the country and Maine would be one step closer to letting people know it’s okay to talk about sexual assault.
WGME-TV reported the group marched through downtown Portland and in to the Old Port on Friday.
The group, Sexual Assault Response Services says in Maine, one in five people report they’ve been a victim of rape or sexual assault.
