PORTLAND (AP) – Jani Hurme made 28 saves and Maxim Kondratiev scored the game winner Saturday as the Portland Pirates beat the Providence Bruins 3-2.
The win gave the Pirates a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven playoff series in the Atlantic Division of the American Hockey League.
Providence led 1-0 after one period when Ben Walter connected on a power play at 15:44.
Portland roared back with two goals in the middle frame. Shane OBrien scored at 12:09, and Dustin Penner added another on a power play at 15:01.
With a man advantage, Kondratiev made it 3-1 at :56 of the final period. For the Bruins, Walter notched his second goal of the evening at 10:04.
Hurme preserved the victory for Portland with two sensational saves in the final period, stopping Jeremy Reich at 7:03 and Yan Stastny at 15:18.
