Ian Sherwood & Friends touring in Maine

LEWISTON — Ian Sherwood & Friends, a trio of East Coast Canadian artists, will perform on three Maine stages in early June, courtesy of New England Celtic Arts.

Sherwood, Anna Ludow and Paul Buchanan will bring their blend of Celtic, blues, jazz, folk and pop to the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston on Tuesday, June 1; Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage on Wednesday, June 2; and Unity College Center for the Performing Arts in Unity on Thursday, June 3.

Curtain is at 7 p.m. at the Franco center and Skye Theatre, and at 7:30 at UCCPA. Pre-show jam sessions will begin 45 minutes prior to curtain at each venue.

Sherwood is a multi-award winning songwriter who mixes catchy melodies and heart-breaking stories with pop/rock/jazz grooves. In 2008, he won Musician of the Year at the Music Nova Scotia Awards and won the grand prize in the 2007 West Coast Songwriter’s Association based in California. He placed first in two categories and landed in the semifinals of the 2006 and 2010 International Songwriting competitions. He is set to release his next album, “And Now The Fun Begins,” in September.

Ludlow emerged onto the professional fiddle scene when she debuted as the principal fiddler for DRUM!, an acclaimed Halifax-based group. Her style is rooted in traditional Cape Breton Celtic fiddle. She has shared the stage with the Beach Boys, Blue Rodeo, Ron Hynes and most recently Don Ross. Her debut album, “Reel to Reel,” was nominated for a 2009 Music Nova Scotia Award for Roots/Traditional, as well as a 2009 East Coast Music Award for Roots/Traditional Solo Album.

Buchanan wears many hats as a songwriter, arranger, producer, performer, promoter and educator. He is best known for his work with his pop/jazz band Flat Fifth. The band’s 2007 self-titled EP landed him two Music NS nominations and a No. 1 single on Canada’s East Coast. He has since spent the better part of 18 months crafting his latest Flat Fifth album, “Alfalfa Honey.”
