AUBURN – Irene J. Maheux, 82, of Lewiston, was guided home to heaven by the angels on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, after a heartbreaking battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Lewiston, Dec. 28, 1935, the daughter of Yvonne (Nadeau) and Oliva Croteau, she was educated in local schools. She later married Laurier (Larry) W. Maheux on June 30, 1956, who was the love of her life, and whom she dearly missed since his death in 2001.
Irene was employed for a short time at St. Mary’s Hospital as a checkout aide but spent most of her life as a homemaker, raising her only daughter, Joline.
After her husband’s diagnosis, she tirelessly devoted herself and lovingly cared for him in his ailing condition for the remainder of his life. She enjoyed playing solitaire, listening to country music, and truly loved her cups of coffee. Irene enjoyed family vacation trips to Canada, Lake Winnipesaukee, and Old Orchard Beach and was unwaveringly faithful to her God as a parishioner of the Prince of Peace Parish. She especially looked forward to her Saturday outings with her grandsons whom she loved with all her heart and were her driving force. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joline and Raymond Chaloux; grandsons Brandon and Luke Chaloux; her sister Susan Berube; and nephews Roger and Paul Berube. She will remain in our hearts with love eternally.
A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Irene’s life will be celebrated 1:00 p.m., Dec. 10, at Holy Family Church. Committal prayers to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to visit Sunday December 9th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.at the PINETTE DILLINGHAM & LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 305 Alfred Plourde Parkway, Lewiston.
