Irene V. Houle


BIDDEFORD – Irene V. Houle, 86, of Biddeford died Friday, March 31, at Southern Maine Medical Center after a long illness.

She was born in Lewiston on Oct. 22, 1919, a daughter of Emile and Elmire Grandemaison Cote. She was educated in Lewiston schools. She attended dental assistant school in Lewiston.

She worked five years for H.I. Marcotte, D.M.D., and V. Caron, D.M.D., in Lewiston.

On July 22, 1947, she married John L. Houle in Saints Peter and Paul Church before moving to Biddeford where she worked several years for Alfred Cabana, D.M.D., and Paul Morin, D.M.D. She last worked 20 years with M.P. Houle, M.D., before retiring in 1979.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, oil painting and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She and her husband wintered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for 20 years until 2003.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years of Biddeford; one daughter, Patricia C. Peck, of Biddeford; three sons, Norman D. Houle and his wife, Diane, of Arundel and Thomas J. Houle and his wife, Ivy, of Vacaville, Calif. and Marc V. Houle and his wife, Mary, of Dayton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
