Isabel M. Clements


AUBURN – Isabel M. Clements, 89, of 44 Woodlawn Ave., died Saturday, April 15, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born Isabelle DiMauro in Vieste, Italy, on Jan. 18, 1917, a daughter of Vicenzo and Filomena Scianname DiMauro. She immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 4 and was educated in Lewiston schools and was a resident of Auburn most of her life.

On June 29, 1944, she married Linwood Clements. Together with Sam and Jennie Bennett, they established Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shoppe and later Sam’s Italian Bakery, which they ran successfully for many years before turning those businesses over to younger family members.

She was longtime parishioner of St. Joseph’s and most recently a member of St. Philip’s parish.

She was a member of the Sons of Italy, United Commercial Travelers Club, YWCA where she enjoyed tours with the group, CMMC Womens Hospital Association and Horizon 55.

She loved her large family and friends an especially the family gatherings.

She enjoyed golf, ice skating, square dancing, reading, attending plays, music, and swinging at the lake with great grandkids.

She will be remembered for her warm sense of humor and kindness to her family.

She is survived by her husband, Linwood Clements, of Auburn; a son, Gerald Clements and his wife, Polly, of Auburn; four grandchildren and their spouses, Kurtis Clements and wife, Ann Bradgon, Stephen and Terri Clements, Maria Clements, Matthew Clements and wife Elizabeth King; seven great-grandchildren, Haley, Nathanial, Grady, Nicholas, Marshall, Lydia and Grace; three brothers and spouses, Frank and Philomena Chiaravelotti of Lewiston, Anthony and Mary Chiaravelotti of Newton, Mass., Mario and Barbara Chiaravelotti of North Conway, N.H.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Sam and Jennie Bennett.
