Jackson E. Blake Sr.


LEWISTON – Jackson “Jack” E. Blake Sr., 73, of South Paris, died Monday, April 10, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Portland on June 30, 1932, the youngest child of 16 children to Arthur P. and Huldah (Kimball) Blake. He was a graduate of Falmouth High School, Class of 1951.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the Portland Water District operating heavy equipment and drove delivery trucks for Sun Oil Co., Fresh Samantha and various other companies.

Jack was a very spirited man who admired his grandsons and would help out his family anytime. He enjoyed watching baseball, basketball and football on all age levels and was an avid Red Sox and Braves fan. He also loved spending time at his camp, cooking, vegetable gardening, hunting, driving and calling and visiting his family and friends.

He was the husband of Carolyn A. (Thompson) Matthews, whom he married on June 7, 1985, and who died on April 9, 1986.

He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Johnson and husband, Mike and grandson, Tyler all of Glenburn; his son, Jackson E. Blake Jr. of South Casco; three sisters, Maggie King and husband, Waldo, of Virginia, Winnefred Dyer of Levant and Eunice Dusty and husband, Frank, of Falmouth; his brother, J. Norman Blake and wife, Glenda, of Falmouth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; seven brothers; and four sisters.
