Jacqueline T. Gogan

WESTBROOK — Jacqueline “Jackie” Tufts Gogan , 67, of Farmington, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, at Springbrook Nursing Facility,  following a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Jackie’s final moments were spent surrounded by her family, who loved her so dearly.

She was born Oct. 6, 1944, in York to Wilfred and Impi Wouri Tufts. Her family later moved to Kingfield, where Jackie attended and graduated from Kingfield High School in 1963. She continued her studies at the University of Maine at Farmington and graduated with her associate’s in business.

During the late ’60s to late ’70s, she lived in New Sweden in Aroostook County and was a co-founder of the Keenan Auction Co. She was also a co-founder of the Stanley Museum in Kingfield and was always proud of her ties to the town.

She spent many years of her life living in Farmington. She worked at Franklin Memorial Hospital as the admitting and switchboard supervisor for many years and later as a billing specialist. She also worked as an office manager at Pierson Real Estate and at a local physician’s office. To Jackie, though, the most important job she ever had was to raise her five children.

Family has always been a center point in Jackie’s life. One of the greatest joys was to be surrounded by her family during the holidays. She was very creative and was an accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, cooking and playing the piano.

She loved to travel and although she had been as far away as Japan, she loved spending time with her sister Sue at the beaches in Cape Cod. Jackie also loved spending Thursday evenings with her dear friend, Barbara Davis, playing Scrabble and sharing stories. Jackie’s wit and humor was beloved by many. She was quoted as saying “it is laughter and humor that have helped me survive as long as I have.”

In 2010 she was awarded the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Survivor Award. Her courageous battle with cancer and her positive attitude will be remembered by all.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Jerry Gogan; her five children, Beth Keenan of South Portland, Amy Keenan Martin and her husband, John, of Gorham, James Keenan and his wife, Audra, of Westbrook, Steven Keenan and his wife, Joann, of Scarborough, Stefan Keenan and his wife, Kelly, of Windham; three stepchildren, Chris Martel, Melanie Frazel and Sage Gogan; her mother, Impi Wouri Tufts of Kingfield; her sister, Suzanne DiBuono of Malborough, Mass.; and her brothers, Michael Tufts of Madison and Tom Tufts of Kingfield. Beloved as “Gram” and “Meem,” she will be greatly missed by all 19 of her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her father, Wilfred “Joe” Tufts; and granddaughters, Ashley Keenan and Sarah Martin.
