SABATTUS — James “Chick” A. Powers Sr., 85, of Sabattus, husband of Hazel (James) Powers and a native of Westport, Conn., passed away Tuesday, May 18 at home.
He was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Westport, Conn., son of the late Edward and Martha (Maurer) Powers and had resided in Westport for 70 years before moving to Maine in 1995. Prior to retiring in 1986, he owned and operated Powers Painting in Westport.
He was a member of Westport PAL, a former member of the Westport Striped Bass Club and is a life member of the Greens Farms Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Westport Sportsman who honored him in 1989 with the PAL award.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 52 years, includes one son, James A. Powers Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Sabattus; one stepson, Thomas R. Fern and his companion, Deborah Huber, of Putnam, Conn.; one stepdaughter, Muriel Knight of Lewiston; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by two brothers, Thomas M. Powers and George Powers.
