1946 – 2014
OTISFIELD — James O. Wood, 68, of Otisfield, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Saturday, Oct. 11, at his residence with his family at his side.
James was born in Cheboygan, Mich., on Sept. 18, 1946, the son of Gerald and Dorothy A. (Clark) Wood. He attended schools in Wolverine, Mich., and graduated from Wolverine High School.
He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy as a parachute rigger while stationed at the Brunswick Naval Air Station during the Vietnam era. He also served as a member of the U.S. Navy Honor Guard while stationed at Brunswick, participating in that role in over 200 military funeral services all over the state of Maine.
For most of his career, James worked at Parker Nichols of Portland in the Heat Treat Department, where he was a foreman.
He enjoyed woodworking in addition to playing five instruments. His wife, kids and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He married Priscilla A. Bernier on June 8, 1968.
James is predeceased by a half-brother, John Pierce, in 2009.
He is survived by his wife of Otisfield; two sons, Brian Wood and his partner, Tatum Grondin, of Standish, and Keith Wood and his partner, Tonya Prentiss, of Templeton, Mass.; his daughter, Denise Parry, and her husband, Gareth, of Whitchurch, Cardiff, Wales; five grandchildren, Philip Wood, Kara Wood, Kyle Wood, Jacob Wood and Trinity Wood; and step-grandchildren, Dylan Gagne, Chelsea Campbell, Madison Haynes, Kamryn Haynes, Brooke Casey, Ashley Casey, Kaitlyn Prentiss and Rachael Prentiss.
