1938 – 2010
CLERMONT, Fla. — Laura Jeannette “Janet” Pepin, 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 23, in Clermont, Fla., with her family by her side.
She was born in Rumford, Jan. 23, 1938, to Theophile and Alice (Robichaud) Lanteigne. She grew up in Rumford with her sisters, Gloria DeSalle, Yvonne Barrieau, Joan Thorne and Cecille Lanteigne. She attended Rumford school and graduated from Stephens High School, Class of 1957.
While in school, she met the love of her life, Roger Pepin. She and Roger were married on July 4, 1958, and celebrated 52 years of marriage together. They had four children, Peter, Laurie, Patricia and Patrick. After high school, she was employed by Oxford Paper Co. and Rumford Community Hospital, where she was affectionately known as “The Voice of RCH.”
She enjoyed spending her summers at Concord Pond, playing cards, board games, reading and sitting around the nightly pit fire with friends and family. She loved her birds and always kept numerous feeders well-stocked. Despite her fear of flying, she was an avid tourist. She traveled the world visiting such hot spots as Hawaii, San Francisco, London, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Munich, Paris, Cannes and her favorite, Las Vegas.
In retirement, she became a snowbird, living in Rumford for the summer and Clermont in the winter. She was active in the Red Hat Society in Clermont and enjoyed playing bingo and traveling around Florida.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Pepin of Rumford and Clermont, Fla.; her children, Peter Pepin of Bethel, Laurie Frost and husband, Brian, of Hartford, Patricia Pepin of Rumford and Patrick Pepin and wife, Monica, of Queensbury, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Kristen Pepin of Voorhees, N.J., Elise Bossie of Cordova, Ark., Colin Ellsworth of Rumford and Lauren Frost of Waterville; and siblings, Gloria DeSalle of Rumford, Yvonne Barrieau of Clermont, Fla., and Joan Thorne of Rumford.
She was predeceased by her parents, Theophile and Alice Lanteigne; and her sister, Cecille Lanteigne.
