Janice M. McKew
1931 – 2010
LEWISTON — Janice M. McKew, 78, of Lewiston, died on Wednesday, March 31, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with her family by her side.
She was born in Troy, N.H., June 19, 1931, the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth (Koski) Marotte. She graduated from Troy High School in 1949. She was employed at Troy Blanket Mills after high school, where she worked as a secretary.
She was married on Dec. 7, 1957, to Marshall McKew, a World War II pilot and textile industry executive; they spent the next 39 years together until his death in 1996. They lived in Lewiston since 1969, and raised their three children there.
She enjoyed attending her sons baseball games and planning family vacations while raising her children. She loved the time she spent with her three grandchildren and especially when she was able to attend her grandson, Jim’s appearance on the game show “Jeopardy” in Los Angeles, when he was 11.
She is survived by her son, Marshall T. “Mac” McKew and daughter-in-law, Jeanne; grandsons, James and John and granddaughter, Stephanie, all of Portland; her son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Denise, of Lewiston; daughter, Mary and son-in-law, James Fortunato, of Mount Vernon; and her five nieces, Sherrie, Caryl, Janet, Mary Jane and Patty and their husbands, all living in the Keene, N.H., area.
She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur.
The family would also like to thank the St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency and lCU Units for their dignity, compassion and care. Dr. Eric Osborne, you were the embodiment of class and sympathy.
