Janice Owens Ingraham


LEWISTON – Janice Owens Ingraham, 68, of Poland, formerly of Dixfield, died peacefully on Thursday, May 18, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Dixfield on Dec. 27, 1937, a daughter of Almon and Helen (Hand) Hawkes. As a young girl, she moved to New Jersey with her family and attended schools there, graduating from Sayreville High School.

Janice worked for 20 years with autistic children in New Jersey’s public schools and at Rutgers University.

On Sept. 22, 1990, she married Clinton Ingraham in Dixfield. They lived for a short time in Dixfield and Auburn, and had settled in Poland for the last eight years.

She was an avid reader and loved to laugh.

She is survived by her husband, Clinton of Poland; her daughters, Candace Wallentine of Lewiston, and Gabrielle Carbonneau and her husband, Don, of Pittsfield; grandchildren, Kelly Greaney and her husband, Dave, of Freehold, N.J., Rachel Lamberti and her husband, Dave, of Irving, Texas, and Caitlin, Donovan and MacKenzie Carbonneau of Pittsfield; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Richard G. Owens, on, Oct. 1, 1983; and two brothers, James and Royce Hawkes.
