JAY — Selectpersons have voted to award a contract to C.H. Stevenson to rebuild a section of Old Jay Hill Road, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said.

The Wayne company’s bid was for $268,864.50, the lowest of five bids received for the project. The highest bid was $393,000.

The company may do some work this fall depending on its schedule and weather conditions, but most work will not take place until spring of 2018, LaFreniere said.

The project calls for a substantial completion date of June 30, 2018, and final completion by July 31, she said.

The town was awarded a $250,000 grant from the Northern Border Regional Commission in 2015 to rebuild about 2,200 feet of Old Jay Hill Road from the intersection of Routes 4 and 17 to the access road to Polycor. The road is being rebuilt to withstand heavy loads and equipment from the business that manufactures granite curbing.

Residents previously voted to transfer $50,000 from the 2014-15 Public Works Department budget to a grant program reserve account in June 2015 for the town’s share of the project.
