FARMINGTON — A Franklin County grand jury indicted a Jay man Tuesday on felony charges of unlawful sexual contact and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, and a misdemeanor charge of criminal restraint.
Shawn Burnell, 21, was charged on July 26 after Farmington police investigated an incident that occurred on July 20 on a beach area of the Sandy River near the trestle. Police said, at the time, that Burnell and another male tried to give alcohol to two girls, ages 14 and 16, and attempted to have sex with them.
A knife was involved in threatening the girls, Farmington Deputy Chief Shane Cote said at the time. The criminal restraint charge resulted from the two men not letting the girls go, he said.
