Auburn – Jean-Charles Boucher Jr., 79, of Highland Apartments on Center Street, died unexpectedly early Sunday, Jan. 7, at his home.

He was born in Lewiston Aug. 7, 1927, a son of Sen. Jean-Charles Boucher Sr. and Carmelle Grenier Boucher. On July 4, 1949, he married the former Germaine Jutras of Lewiston at Saints Peter and Paul Church. He was a graduate of Holy Family School, St. Dom’s Regional High School in 1947, and the University of Maine at Orono, Class of 1953.

He was a veteran of the military having served his country in the Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. After the war he resumed his studies. He was a member of Canado Insurance, Institute Jacques Cartier, Union St. Jean Baptiste, Catholic Family Life and was past secretary of the Richelieu Club.

He was a founding member of the Centre Heritage Museum and a member of Saints Peter and Paul Church L’Orpheon mens’ choir, and was a proud member of the first group of Lectors at Holy Cross Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Franco-American War Veterans.

He was employed by Union Carbide and later by American Cyananide Co. (Lederle Pharmaceutical Division) as a sales representative for 25 years. Later in retirement, he spent several years as a substitute teacher in Vero Beach, Fla. and Lewiston schools.

He and his wife, Germaine made their home in several locations over the years including Orono, Bangor and Portland, Maine, as well as Albany, N.Y. and Vero Beach, Fla. He was proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed traveling, the theater, classical and pop music and reading.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Germaine Boucher of Auburn; three sons, Jean-Charles Boucher III, and wife, Lynn, of Carmel, Marc Boucher, and wife, Linda, of Hampden and Gregory Boucher, and wife, Hillary, of Franklin, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Leah, Abby, Celeste, Cathy, Spencer, Garrett and Grace Boucher; four sisters, Jacqueline Letendre, and husband, Benoit, of Lewiston, Sister Giselle Boucher, Order of St Joseph, of Waterville, Monique McAvoy, and husband, Frank, of Lewiston and Helene L’Heureux, and husband, Leo, of Winthrop; a brother, Roger Boucher, and wife, Joanne, of Maclane, Va.; a sister-in-law, Constance Boucher of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Sarah Boucher; a sister, Carmel Brickates; and a brother, Marcel Boucher.
