Jenkins invites community to ‘aspire to be great’

PARIS — Community members are invited to hear a presentation by John Jenkins at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

As part of Aspire Higher Month in the Oxford Hills School District, Jenkins will be speaking on personal and professional development, as well as how to “Be GREAT.”

Jenkins is an accomplished author, business owner, public servant, educator, trainer, leader and national public speaker.

The theme of the presentation is increasing aspirations and encouraging personal and professional growth. Jenkins’ credo is “I believe our nation’s greatest assets are its people and their sense of well-being and being well, fostered by development of body, mind, spirit, independence, and community.”

Through the district’s Aspire Higher Initiative, individuals and businesses have helped raise and distribute more than $40,000 in scholarships to Oxford Hills students.

This year, the Aspire Higher March will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, beginning at the Oxford Hills Middle School North Campus on Pine Street in South Paris. Students who march will have a chance to receive a $100 scholarship.

Community members and businesses interested in sponsoring one or more student scholarships should contact Superintendent Rick Colpitts at 743-8972, Education Exchange Director Maureen Howard or Hilary Hendricks at 743-8914. Checks toward a scholarship may be sent to SAD 17 – ATTN: Debra Hertell, 232 Main Street Suite 2, South Paris, ME 04281. Include “Aspire Higher” on the memo line.
