John G. Edgerly


FARMINGTON — A service of thanksgiving for the life of John G. Edgerly was held Friday at the Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Walter Brown and the Rev. Terence McKinley, co-officiating. Patricia Hayden was the organist. The Introit was “Kum Ba Yah” (Come By Here,) sung by the Trinity Chancel Choir, under the direction of choir director Sandra Hoyt. The Old Testament reading was Psalm 121 and Psalm 23. The congregation then sang the hymn “Standing in the Need of Prayer.” New Testament readings were John 14 and 1st Corinthians 15, followed by the Trinity Chancel Choir singing “Precious Memories.” The Rev. McKinley, John’s former pastor, offered words of remembrance. The Rev. Alan Shumway, longtime friend and neighbor sang “The Lord’s Prayer,” followed by words of remembrance by the Rev. Brown, John’s pastor. Following a time of prayer, the Trinity Chancel Choir sang “Amazing Grace.” Prior to the benediction, the congregation sang the first verse of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Following services, MaryEllen and her family greeted friends and family at a reception in the fellowship hall, hosted by the UMW.
