Johnson hit three times, ties record

NEW YORK (AP) – Toronto’s Reed Johnson tied a major league record when he was hit by pitches three times Saturday against the New York Yankees.

Johnson also was hit by three pitches April 7 at Tampa Bay – the only other times he was hit by pitches this year. He also was plunked by pitches three times on April 16, 2005, at Texas.

Johnson was hit near the left shoulder all three times – by Randy Johnson in the first and third innings, and by Tanyon Sturtze in the sixth.
