Joseph A. Audet


LEWISTON – Joseph A. Audet, 83, of 39 Jeffrey St., Lewiston, died Monday, Jan. 22, at his residence, after a long illness.

He was born in St. Camille, P.Q., Canada, on Dec. 30, 1923, the son of Joseph and Elda (Boutin) Audet and had been a resident of this community for most of his life.

He was employed as a truck driver for many years, until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 22 and the Amvets Post 6. He was an atlas enthusiast. Anyone needing directions anywhere in the United States, he would be the person to see. He enjoyed gardening and cutting wood. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, the former Emily Cyr, whom he married on June 21, 1955 of Lewiston; one daughter, Louise Vye, and her husband, Jeff, of Lisbon; one brother, Raymond Audet of Lewiston; three sisters, Marie Gildea of Pittsburgh, Pa., Florence Audet of Auburn and Lilianne Bourque of Lewiston; two grandchildren, Shantelle and Krystal Vye, both of Lisbon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Roland, Philip and Claude Audet; and two sisters, Noella Burke and Bernadette Gunther.
