JAY — Joyce E. Smith, 91, a longtime resident of Lavoie Street, Jay, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, early Friday, May 27, at her residence.

She was born July 9, 1919, in Milo, the daughter of Raymond and Gertrude (Hathorn) Hall. Joyce was a graduate of Bradford High School.

On March 28, 1938, in Palmyra, she married her husband of 67 years, Rochie Smith, he passed away Aug. 9, 2005. Joyce waitressed through the years, but her true joy was caring for her family. She was an extraordinary mother caring for her disabled son for more than 40 years until his relocation to Harris House in Livermore Falls.

Joyce was very artistic and painted beautiful oil paintings; she was also an exceptional seamstress and she loved to restore dolls, she would make new clothes, shoes, hats, fix their hair and then she would give them away.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Linda and Wesley Nash of Millinocket and Florida; her son, Blaine Smith of Livermore Falls; granddaughters, Laurie Nash of Marietta, Ohio, and Diane MacGilvray of Melbourne, Fla.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Lisa Lorraine Smith; and her sister, Thelma Ward.
