Juliette “JUDY” McGilvery

AUGUSTA – Our beloved mother, Juliette “Judy” McGilvery, 84, a longtime resident of Augusta, died Friday, May 12, at Clover Manor, Minot Avenue, Auburn, where she lived for the past eight years, being treated for Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born on Oct. 17, 1921, the daughter of Andre and Marie Jalbert of Lewiston. After high school, Judy worked in retail sales and had a longtime career working in the Augusta school system’s east side schools cafeterias as a cook. By far, her best job was as a mom, as she loved each of her children unconditionally.

Her favorite hobbies were playing with her grandchildren, gardening, watching the Red Sox, dancing and chatting with friends. While living in Augusta, she was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, and at Clover Manor she participated in regular church services and other activities when she was able.

She is survived by one son, Donald R. McGilvery and his wife, Cheryl, of Yarmouth; one daughter, Donna M. Karagiannes and her husband, Mike, of Augusta; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Rene and Romeo Jalbert; a sister, Georgette Driscoll; as well as extended family.

She was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Selwyn Nye (Mac) McGilvery, who died in 1981; her daughter, June Loercher; her son, Robert McGilvery; her sister, Annette Jalbert; her brothers, Donat, Joseph and Raymond Jalbert; and her twin granddaughters, Melissa and Michelle Karagiannes.
