I’m writing in response to a recent article, “Judge irked with those who ignore call to serve,” that was about jury duty.
I sympathize with the nine people who did not report for jury duty in January. I did report for jury duty in January, against my will. I was ordered to do so by the court, or face charges of contempt of court, punishable by a fine or imprisonment.
This is the fourth time that I have been called for jury duty. I know people who have never been called to jury duty.
Until the courts establish a fair system, where everyone gets the opportunity to do jury duty, the court system should not treat the law-abiding citizens of Maine like criminals.
