Kathleen V. Poland


WELD – Kathleen V. Poland, 101, a resident of Livermore Falls, died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 6, at the home of her niece in Weld.

She was born July 1, 1905, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Charles A. and Caroline (Paige) Poland. She was a graduate of Livermore Falls High School, continuing her education at Colby, Bates and the University of Maine in Farmington earning her a bachelor’s degree in education.

She devoted her life to teaching and taught for 47 years in Rumford and the Oxford Hills school system. Throughout the years, she kept in contact with many of her former pupils and enjoyed reminiscing about all of their prior and current experiences.

She was an avid reader and she so enjoyed reading material pertaining to historical events. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls, a charter member of Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a life member of the Oxford Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, a former member of the Rebekah Lodge 6 and a member of the Maine Teachers Association. At the time of her death, she was also the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls and current holder of the Boston Cane.

She is survived by nieces, Daveene Myers, Marion Sinclair, Ellen Stacey, Jo Powers and Karleene Page; nephews, Allan Poland, Arnold Poland, Davis Poland and Richard Poland. She will be sadly missed by her special friend, Mildred Wright of Livermore Falls; and many generations of nieces and nephews; as well as many former pupils whom she cherished so much.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur, Clyde and Davis Poland; and four sisters, Marion Hood, Fern Poland, Helen Allen and Hazel Bailey.
