CASSELBERRY, Fla. — Kenneth Grant, 62, of West Poland died unexpectedly in Casselberry, Fla., on Saturday, April 1, while engaged in an activity he loved, running.

Ken was born in Suffern, N.Y., on Jan. 6, 1955, to James and Annette Grant, the fourth of six sons. Ken graduated from Monroe-Woodbury High School and Southern Connecticut State College. He moved to Maine and married his soul mate, Daphne Hatch, in 1977. Together, they had two daughters, Amanda and Sarah. Ken taught physical education at Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls for 25 years. While teaching, he lobstered during school breaks and after school hours. He retired from teaching in 2000 to become a full-time lobsterman.

Ken was a lifelong athlete. He enjoyed nothing more than beating his brothers on the golf course. He loved basketball and has always been a part of community youth programs as a coach, volunteer or referee. His patience and quiet guidance made him a favorite with the many children whose lives he touched. Ken was an avid fisherman. He shared his love of the sea with frequent “helpers” who were fortunate enough to spend time with him on his lobster boat. Ken was an exceptionally giving man, dedicated to his family, and always willing to help others.

Ken was predeceased by his grandparents, William and Lucy Pitt; father, James Grant; and brother, Robert Grant.
