Kid Stuff Sale on tap Saturday

FARMINGTON – The fifth annual Kid Stuff Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Old South Church. Last year’s sale was a huge success thanks to donations, volunteers and shoppers. More than $2,000 was raised to provide summer camp scholarships for children under age 10.

The fundraiser started as a way for children to help other children by donating their used toys to be sold. The first year, many donations were made while the donors were sleeping or otherwise distracted. Children are now making conscious decisions to save toys for donation and the sale has quadrupled its profit. Children are also participating in the sorting, cleaning and pricing of donations.

Anticipation of the scholarships has also grown from the first year. Fourteen applications were received the first year and more than 30 were filled last year.

Scholarships are available at the Franklin County Children’s Task Force on Church Street. They are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and are awarded to any applicant age 10 and younger whose family budget would not have been able to include summer camp.

Deadline for the applications is June 30. Applicants are encouraged to apply only for what they need to make camp possible, so that more children may benefit from the funds. The highest amount awarded is $75. To make a donation to the sale, call Barb at 779-0589.
