Kids can redeem coupons for reading

LEWISTON – The Auburn and Lewiston public libraries are offering Read to Me Coupons.

Preschoolers can present the coupons to any adult who then has to read a book out loud at the first opportunity. The coupons can later be turned in at either library to enter a monthly drawing for a free book.

Read to Me Coupons are part of Ready Read, a cooperative effort of the Lewiston and Auburn public schools to encourage parents to read to their preschool children 20 minutes every day from birth.

Research has shown that reading to babies, toddlers and preschoolers prepares children to become readers and that this “reading readiness” is the single best predictor of success in school.
