Kids’ cooking club sign-up set for Thursday

LEWISTON – Kids can learn to cook healthy foods from around the world at a new weekly cooking club sponsored by Lots to Gardens.

They can sign up at Snack Extravaganza between 3:30 and 5 p.m. Thursday at the Lewiston Public Library Children’s Department. Participants can sample Thai foods and play food-related games.

The Kids’ Cooking Club, for kids ages 8 to 14, is free. It will meet every Monday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the B Street Community Center, beginning Jan. 15. There’s limited space each week, so participants will be chosen at random from the sign-up sheet.

Sign-ups will be held every Thursday at the library for the next week’s Kids’ Cooking Club. If you can’t get to the library to sign up for the program, or if you’d like more information, call Denise Dill, the food and nutrition coordinator for Lots to Gardens at 753-6944 or David Moorhead from the Lewiston Public Library at 784-0135 ext 4.

Lots to Gardens uses sustainable urban agriculture to create access to fresh food, and to nurture healthy youth and a healthy community. Since 1999, it has built 15 gardens and green spaces in four Lewiston neighborhoods. The group is sponsored by Sisters of Charity Health System.
