Knights double up on Patriots


POLAND – Jake Pelletier hurled seven innings of four-hit baseball and received strong support at the plate as Poland defeated Gray-New Gloucester 4-2 in a WMC matchup Thursday. Pelletier also led the Knights’ (6-4) offensive effort with two hits on the day.

The Patriots (6-7) were paced by catcher Matt Moberg with two hits and one RBI. Starter Ryan Welch was saddled with the loss after a damaging first four innings. Polans put all four runs on the board in the first three innings.

Old Orchard Beach 2, St. Dom’s 1

OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Donald Dutton pitched a 1-hitter as Old Orchard Beach clipped St. Dom’s 2-1 in baseball action Thursday.

The first run for the Seagulls (4-6) came when Tom Edgecomb walked Nate Raye with the bases loaded. Then, Mike Grindatti hit a sacrifice fly to plate the final and game-winning run for Old Orchard.

St. Dom’s (8-2) scored their only run in the top half of the second inning when Greg Labonte scored on a wild pitch.

Oak Hill 13, Rockland 3

ROCKLAND – Oak Hill scored four times in the first inning and coasted to an easy 13-3 vcitory over Rockland.

Josh Jillson had a two-run home run in the fourth inning for Oak Hill (6-5). Wally Rines, Chris Eaton, Brian Bisson, Justin Plourde and Robie Leavitt also had two RBIs each for the Raiders.

Chris Ellis fanned five in four innings to earn the win. Josh Powell was the losing pitcher for Rockland (7-4).


Oak Hill 12, Wiscaset 7

WALES – Kevin Laplante netted six goals and dished three assists to lead Oak Hill to a 12-7 victory over Wiscasset in a KVAC boy’s lacrosse matchup Thursday. Joey Gilbert and Nick Brown chipped in for the Raiders (6-3) with two goals each, while single tallies by Chris Sherman and Casey Baney completed the scoring. Josh Heckerd made 16 saves in net to notch the win.

The Redskins (6-3) saw seven different players register goals. Adam Snell, Caleb Jones, Coady Robson, Justin Kramley, Sean Pinkham, Devan Hannon and Jason Lucas all scored to comprise the final tally. Sean Thompson turned aside 17 shots in net for Wiscasset.

Cony 3, Edward Little 1

AUBURN – Joey Gagnon netted two goals to lead Cony to a 3-1 victory over Edward Little in more boy’s lacrosse action Thursday. Dave Sanford also scored for the Rams (1-8) to complete the scoring. Wiley McVety also contributed with an assist. Dillon Shaw made 19 saves in net to record the win.

The Eddies’ (2-7) lone goal came from Andrew Brodsky with an assist from Zach Ward. Veteran keeper Derek Racine turned aside 18 shots in net for Edward Little.
