Kruczek and Knight win big at OPS

OXFORD — Brian Kruczek came out victorious with his second win of the season during the Pro All Star Series on Sunday at Oxford Plains Speedway.

After starting 21st, Kruczek slowly made his way up — not taking the lead till lap 93. Fellow New Hampshire native Jeremy Davis led the first 63 laps after getting a big early lead. Davis had a back-and-forth battle to keep a top spot, eventually finishing second while rookie Garrett Hall of Scarborough finished third at the line, passing by Mike Hopkins.

Shawn Knight won his second SLM feature of the season Saturday during the Championship Series. The 50-lap feature went off without a hitch. Gunnar Rowe took an early lead after pole sitter Tyler King fell back on the second lap. Knight, who started near the back once again, passed most of the pack. By lap 14, he was sitting in fourth. By Lap 25, he was in second, waiting for a chance to take the lead away from Rowe. The 25 car took the lead and didn’t look back.

Championship contenders Tim Brackett and Kyle Treadwell maintained top 10 positions the whole night and, by lap 40, found themselves battling for second place. Treadwell found himself in positon and stayed put the rest of the race.  PASS Tour regular Johnny Clark raced with Brackett for the last few laps until finally getting by with four to go to finish third place.

If there is a guy who has deserved a win this season it’s Matty Sanborn, driver of the 64 in the Modified Division. His hard work paid off on Saturday when he got his first career win. He took off on the start from the pole and led the entire 25-lap feature. Ryan Robbins finished second, while Scott Alexander finished third.

The Hood 150 started off with a literal bang, when pole sitter Scott Mulkerin blew his motor on lap five bring out the first caution. Jeremy Davis had a big lead, passing the back of the field until lap 17 when another caution. On the restart, Beechridge regular Bobby Timmons had Tim Brackett at this door trying to pass him on the outside for third. Saturday’s late model winner Shawn Knight’s car had been smoking since the beginning of the race but he continued to race up to fifth. Brackett got by Timmons on the bottom, while Knight also passed on lap 30. Mike Hopkins came out of nowhere, squeezing by both Brackett and Knight for second. Not long after, Brackett made contact with Knight and went behind the wall, not returning to the race. On lap 92 there was a seven-car wreck and most everyone drove out. Knight soon parked his car behind the wall on lap 123.

The championship series returns Saturday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. at the speedway on Route 26 in Oxford.
