L/A elderly need caring volunteers

Dear Sun Spots: The Senior Companion Program is looking for caring people to help make the day brighter for homebound elderly in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Companions spend 15-20 hours a week visiting and relieving loneliness and isolation for the homebound. They also receive a tax free stipend, mileage reimbursement and other benefits.

If you are 60 years of age and on a fixed income you may be eligible to become a senior companion.

Please call Anna Saar at 1-800-287-1482 for more information and an application.

This program is sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and is partnered with Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice and SeniorsPlus.

Thank you Sun Spots readers for caring. – Anna Saar, South Paris.

Dear Sun Spots: We have some clients in a residential group home that cannot afford gym memberships. They are very motivated and would like to do some weight lifting and exercise. We are looking for some donated equipment, particularly free weights, straight bar and a punching bag. We can pick up the equipment if necessary. Please call Scott at 783-3446. Thank you. – Scott Morrison, Auburn.

Dear Sun Spots: I was wondering if there was a place around that gives away or sells really cheap, used scooters or wheelchairs. Being recently disabled and needing to get around, I am in dire need of help. I have searched in the want ads and Uncle Henry’s, but they are so expensive. I am only 42 and would like to get out and do things with my family, and at times I need help to get around. I do prefer a scooter, because of use of only one arm. Thank you for all your help. I have seen this column help a lot of people and hope someone can help me. You may reach me at 514-7756. Thank you. – No Name, No Town.
