JAY — Lauristine Welch, 73, of North Jay, known as “Teenie” by her Cochran family and “Honey” by her grandchildren, died unexpectedly at her home Monday, Jan. 28.
She was born in Wilton, Nov. 13, 1939, a daughter of Newton and Laura (Cushman) Cochran Sr. and attended Wilton Academy. She was employed for many years in the shoe industry, first at Norwock Shoe and later at GH Bass in Wilton.
On Dec. 20, 1956, she married Herschel Welch. Mrs. Welch was a member of the Red Hat’s and she enjoyed dancing, camping, sewing and working on crafts and making quilts. She attended the Bean’s Corner Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Herschel of North Jay; sons, Herschel Welch Jr. and his wife, Arlene, of North Jay, Rick Welch and his wife, Jodi, of Livonia, N.Y., Dale Welch and his wife, Mary, of North Jay, and an adopted son, Gary Paquette and his wife, Tammy, of Sabattus; her “twin” brother, Lauriston Cochran and his companion, Judy, of Wilton; sister, Brenda Laflin and her husband, Donald, of Monmouth; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren, with another due to arrive in June.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Katherine Clements, Leona DiSotto, Cleo Pomeroy, Newt Cochran Jr., Vivian “Bib” Welch and Douglas Cochran Sr.; and a grandson, Jason Welch.
