Lawrence E. ‘Cy’ Atkinson
1920 – 2010
FARMINGTON — Lawrence E. “Cy” Atkinson, 89, of Livermore, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 16, at the Franklin Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 9, 1920, in Livermore, the son of Archie and Beatrice (Hodge) Atkinson. He attended Livermore schools.
On June 24, 1941, he married, Gelia “Peggy” Handy in North Turner. They made their home in Livermore raising four children.
Cy enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels, gardening, cutting firewood and walking in the woods near his home. He enjoyed hunting on Bear Mountain and fishing on Martin Stream. He also enjoyed playing with his beloved cat, “Boy.”
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Peggy of Livermore; his children, Beatrice “Beady” Farrington and her husband, Norwood, of Jay, Janice Farrington of Jay, April Pomerleau and her husband, Ron, of Fort Meyers, Fla., and David Atkinson and his longtime companion, Sheila Smith, of Canton; nine grandchildren, Frank Farrington, Lawrence “Larry” Farrington, Lisa Michaud, Lyn Farrington, Jamie Poland, Allison Taylor, Chadwick Atkinson, Jeremy Atkinson and Emily Atkinson; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Marion Libby, Katherine Bacheller, Eveline Dyke and Charles Atkinson; a granddaughter, Laurie Farrington; and son-in-law, Scott Poland.
