Lawrence S. Burgess


BOCA RATON, FLA. – Lawrence Seth Burgess, 83, passed away at his home on July 19.

He was born in Lewiston, Dec. 19, 1923, the son of Lewis Arthur Burgess and Ethel Gallaway Burgess. He was a graduate of ELHS, Class of 1941. He went on to attend the Auburn Maine School of Commerce.

He then served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was employed at Bates Mfg. Co. from 1946 to 1974, and as personnel manager from 1959 to 1974. He was a member of the Court Street Baptist Church and belonged to Martindale Country Club for many years.

In 1974, he married Cecile Levesque, and in 1975 moved to Florida, where he was employed by the Boca Raton Resort and Club. He worked at the front desk until he retired in 2005. The hotel guests and employees were impressed with the service he provided for them, always making them feel special.

He is survived by his wife, Cecile; his son, Bobby and companion, Claudia, of Lewiston; two daughters, Sally LaFontaine of Auburn, and Janice and her husband, Paul Paradis, of Auburn; Cecile’s two sons, Dick and his wife, Pat Levesque, of Loganville, Ga., and Jerry and his wife, Dottie Levesque, of Salem, S.C.; five grandchildren, Jamie, Julie, Tim, Brian and Angela; eight great-grandchildren; and former wife, Shirley Burgess.
