Lawrence W. Harvie Jr.

LEWISTON – Lawrence “Larry” W. Harvie Jr., 41, of 34 Village Drive, Lewiston, died Saturday afternoon at Central Maine Medical Center with his family at his side.

He was born in Skowhegan on Jan. 2, 1965, a son of Lawrence W. and Sandra (Whittemore) Harvie. He was educated in Livermore Falls schools and graduated from Livermore Falls High School.

Larry received his undergraduate degree from St. Michael’s College in Vermont and then his master’s degree in computer science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts.

He was employed in the medical billing field as a computer analyst and programmer at Per-Se Technologies in Lewiston, where he worked for the past 10 years.

Larry was a member of the Vineyard Church, where he was a very active member and taught Sunday school for the past several years.

He was a very kind, giving and loving man, who adored music, especially jazz, and who, despite the disability that life dealt him, was always very happy, positive and upbeat and never angry or bitter toward anything or anyone. Though he was disabled, he never allowed that to slow him down. Despite his disabilities, he was such an accomplished individual. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends and co-workers, whose lives he touched in many ways.

He leaves his dad, Lawrence W. Harvie Sr. and his companion, Sally McCarthy, of Livermore Falls; a sister, Shannon Staples and her husband, Bob, who was like a brother to him, of Jay; a brother, Patrick Harvie and his wife, Joy, of Methuen, Mass.; five very special nephews, whom he adored, and who had the same adoration for him, and of whom he was very proud, Sgt. Chad Staples, Tyler Staples, Brett Staples, Garrett Greystone and Logan Harvie; several aunts, uncles and cousins; his extended family of very dedicated personal-care attendants, past and present; a special group of co-workers, who were some of his best friends and were like family to him; and his two cats, Sammy and Gizmo.

Larry was predeceased by his loving mother, Sandra (Whittemore) Harvie in February 2001.
