Learn how to preserve produce


PORTLAND – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering a three-hour “Preserving the Harvest” workshop in several locations as follows:

Monday, June 12, 6 to 9 p.m. at Falmouth Community Services. Call 781-5253, ext. 313, to register.

Tuesday, June 13, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Androscoggin/Sagadahoc County Extension Office, 24 Main St., Lisbon Falls.

Thursday, June 15, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., American Legion Post, Route 100, 15 Lewiston Road, Gray.

Friday, June 16, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Cumberland Fairgrounds Demo Kitchen, 197 Blanchard Road, Cumberland. Call 1-800-287-1471 to register for the three workshops.

Participants will receive a “Preserving the Harvest” food preservation packet. They will learn recommended methods for preserving foods, the latest and safest recipes, equipment to insure safety and how to check for properly sealed jars. Participants may bring their own pressure canning gauge for a free accuracy calibration and should bring a potholder.
