Legion Auxiliary installs year’s officers


NORWAY – Installation of officers was held at the May meeting of Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary.

Installing team was Past Department President and Past Eastern Division Vice President Jerri Greenwell, installing officer; Past Department President and Past Eastern Division Vice President Ruth Jucius, chaplain; and Department Junior Historian Deanna Merchant, sergeant-at-arms.

Installed were Kim Hansen, president; Marilyn Jones, first vice president; Jean Millett, second vice president; Joyce Clifford, secretary; Rose Moulton, treasurer; Barbara Henley, historian; Christine Weiss, chaplain; Marie Pingree, sergeant-at-arms; Executive Committee, Ellen Snow, Beulah Ayer. Eleanor Durant was absent.

Ellen Snow reported she had donated clothing, baby items and sports articles to community services to be distributed to people in need. Albert Mercouri, post member, collects the items and Snow sees that they get to organizations that help people in need.

Joyce Clifford reported that Lisa Chase, Amanda Prestia and Austi Silver are going to Girls State at Husson College in June. Alternates are Brittney Detlefsen and Charley Cray. Clifford also reported on a rummage sale to be held Saturday, May 27, asking members to bring items for the sale.

Memorial Day plans were made. Rose Moulton and Joyce Clifford will be flag bearers, Theresa Dodge and Marie Pingree will be guards. Marilyn Jones will lay the wreath at Withrall Memorial Park. Barbara Henley will be in charge of school children and Marjy Sessions will be in charge of coffee and doughnuts.

Serving on the Scholarship Committee are Marjy Sessions, Jean Millett and Kim Hansen. Lucille Allen will replace Joyce Bickford as alternate delegate to the state convention.

Members voted to donate to Project Graduation and to the post for the floor fund. Jucius spoke on how appreciative she is for all the things that the unit does for her. Clifford presented Hansen a gift for her year of service as president.
