Legion commended for 100 % membership

NORWAY – The Stone-Smart American Legion Post 82 and Auxiliary held a meat loaf supper prior to the April meetings. The supper was under the direction of Arnie Pendexter, chairman, assisted by Ernie Clifford, Ralph Millett and Dave Tilley.

Past Commander Gene Bickford presented the post with a certificate of commendation for reaching 100 percent membership for the year 2006. Bickford also presented 100 membership cap pins to Commander Randall Henley, Adjutant Leland Millett and Second Vice Commander and Membership Chairman George Tibbetts.

Henley conducted the post meeting. The March reports of Finance Chairman Ralph Moulton, Bingo Chairman Lee Millett and Game of Chance Chairman Fred Burbank were accepted for audit.

Americanism Officer Bob Sessions reported that the Legion had one candidate to attend Boys State at the University of Southern Maine in June. Sessions is trying to get one more candidate. Sessions asked for a committee to help him plan the Memorial Day parade and ceremonies. Bickford and Henley each volunteered to be on the committee.

Sessions said he had received a request for the post to furnish a color guard to present the colors at the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics at the Gouin Athletic Complex on May 11. The post voted to furnish a color guard for the occasion.

The post received a thank-you note from Jessie King for the donation to help her become a People to People Ambassador to Ireland, Wales and England this summer.

It was voted to pay the dues of the living past commanders to the State Past Commanders Club. Money raised from the dues goes to two scholarships to be chosen by the committee from applications received from all over the state.

The post held second nomination of officers to serve for the 2006-07 Legion year. As there was only one candidate for each office, it was voted to have the adjutant cast one ballot for those nominated.

The officers elected were: commander, Ernest Clifford; first vice commander, George Tibbetts; second vice commander, Ralph Millett; finance officer, Ralph Moulton; adjutant, Leland Millett; sergeant-at-arms, David Ray; chaplain, John Morgan; historian, David Tilley; service officer, Robert Sessions; and Americanism officer, Randall Henley.

Millett reported that for the second year in a row every living member from 2005 had renewed their membership to the post for 2006. Millett thanked everyone for helping the Post reach 100 percent membership for the third year in a row.

The next meeting of the post and auxiliary will be Wednesday, May 10. The supper will be served at 6 p.m. rather than the regular 6:30. Officers of each organization will be installed after supper.
